  2. I wrote the poem. I am a Thanjavur Marathi and passionate about our language and culture. I found a lot of people shy to declare that they were Marathi speaking and even more so in front of a Marathi speaking person from Maharashtra. My poem was in a way to spell out the differences between us and feel proud that we are as we are!

I am from Maharashtra now staying in Bangalore...i am very much interested in Indian history and specially Marathi history. While searching about past i found there are lot of people in thunjavur...And please don't feel shy about your Marathi...let us exchange your Marathi words and the new Marathi words which we are using now a days in Maharashtra...i will share some movie names which you can watch.....after all we are maharashtrians.. lets be proud and reduce the gap between migrated marathi's and people currently staying in Maharashtra what say???

  4. Thank you for visiting my blog, Bhakti. Yes there are a lot of us settled down in South India. We speak Marathi, evolved through the ages. But surprisingly many words we use , we hear that it was in used in Ancient Marathi!
I love to see Marathi movies, and YES, let us reduce the gap between us!

We have GONDHALL-a ceremony of JAAGRANN-praising/praying/singing bhajans/katha/keertan of ones family deity-kooldewataa-.this is performed after any auspicious Kary.weddinf/upnayan[mounjee bandhan]barse[naming ceremony]etc.some have it for Ambaa bai, some for khandobaa, others for Tuljaa bhavani.Do you have this ceremony ?

  6. Yes Shri SirDeshpande. Gondhal is very much prevalent amongst the TMDs. Especially if they have Amba Bhavani as their kuldevi, this is common. I have only heard my grand mom telling that she had been to attend some relative's Gondhal function and how it is carried on through the night. Those who have this ceremony have to do it before any auspicious function such as munji or waraad. I wanted more information to write about this topic as a blog post and have been trying to get information on how it is done among the TMDs. But unfortunately with our community being so far dispersed and I living so far away, it is a challenge. Hope to be able to write about this soon.
