JEWELRY AND ORNAMENTS!







TMDs or Dakshini Marathis as we call ourselves nowadays,  have our own unique names for pieces of jewellery. There were especially some ornaments that would be always worn by TMD married women. Here I have described some of the ornaments with their typical Marathi names...as we have always called them.

Jewellery is called "Nugh".

Let us begin with....

MUKHRA .... NOSE RING





BULAAK... NOSE JEWELRY worn on the bridge of the nose


MUDHI ... RING


VANKI MUDHI -- CURVED RING







RAAKHDI... HAIR ORNAMENT






VENICHA NUGH ....Hair ornament for Plait.


Veni is for plait

This is used to adorn the plait.

Hanging earrings






THOD.... EARRINGS



GONDE
Was a decoration worn at the end of a plait. 




BICCHODA-- not a hair ornament, but was a hair style ( a bun like thing) fixed to the hair.
